Arthur had me do a slight adjustment to the coordinating rods, increasing the action, and it got a little better. I've gone through my collection of bridges, and the problem obviously is not the bridge.Īs you all probably know, Arthur is great to deal with and if he were not over six hours away, that is where I'd go. The banjo came with one of Arthur's compensating bridges, so just to check that I switched out to an extra Snuffy straight that I had and the buzz was much improved, but still there. The head is tight and measures a touch over 90 with a Drum dial, which indicates that hasn't changed. A few weeks ago, it developed a buzz on the 3rd & 4th strings between the 11th fret and the 15th fret. Tim & Don - The banjo is a new Hatfield and it has been playing terrifically. Thank you for all of you input -it has been great. I am with Tim on this, I am a luthier in NC and let me say first off, I do not know everything there is to know about banjos and I learn something new almost daily but if you want to give me a call I would be glad to talk to you in detail about the problem and maybe give you some suggestions on checking it out and troubleshoot it to see if the problem can be fixed by you, no traveling involved or repair costs along with the satisfaction of fixing it yourself! I have an annoying buzz and after I've exhausted my capabilities, I'd like a more knowledgeable banjo guy to look at it and make the necessary corrections. I'll drive a couple of hours to someone if they are good enough. Does anyone know of a reputable banjo repair, luthier relatively close to me in Western NC ? I live in Highlands, NC, 20 minutes from Franklin, NC, 2 hours SW of Asheville NC, 2 Hours NW of Greenville, SC, and about 15 minutes over the North Ga border.
